Faculty of Music announces the return of popular concert series Music At Noon to online audience

Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Music is pleased to announce the return of the Music at Noon concert series in an online format. The series welcomes instructors and professors from the Faculty of Music to the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall stage to perform works from a variety of composers and genres.

In the past, the series has welcomed Faculty members along with national and international musical guests to perform weekly to an appreciative audience of community members and Laurier students, free of charge. Many notable names have graced the stage throughout the years during this concert series including world renowned trumpet performer Arnaud Schotte, Opera performer Brett Polegato, Thin Edge New Music Collective and Indian percussionist and composer Trichy Sankaran as some examples.

This year, the concert series will be provided differently due to the global pandemic. The Faculty of Music has utilized its facilities and social media in a new way to be able to provide these concerts in a safe and accessible format. The performers will be recorded in the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall, and the concerts will be uploaded to the Faculty of Music YouTube channel available for all to view starting at 12 p.m. each week on Thursdays, with the first concert to be presented on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.

The first one-hour concert that will launch our new online series is a traditional Faculty of Music showcase.  It features many familiar faces from around the faculty in collaborative performances. Performers will include the Faculty of Music’s artist-in-residence, the Penderecki String Quartet, and various instrumentalists and vocalists. The full concert program will be published with the YouTube concert video this coming Thursday.

Information about future Music at Noon concerts will be posted on the Faculty of Music’s online concert calendar soon. Updates to other upcoming virtual events and concerts will be posted on the Faculty’s new Events website.
