The Beckett School at Laurier in partnership with Laurier's Faculty of Music is excited to announce a new Summer Theory Preparation Course. The Summer Theory Preparation Course is designed for incoming Faculty of Music students. The course will be held online in summer, 2020.
The Online Summer Theory Preparation Course is designed for incoming Faculty of Music students. The course helps students to improve their foundational theory skills and sets them up for success at Laurier.
This 6-week course will run from Monday, Jul. 13, until Friday, Aug. 21. Each week will cover a different module:
Module 1: Pitch and Clefs
Module 2: Scales and Key Signatures
Module 3: Intervals
Module 4: Triads and Seventh Chords
Module 5: Functional harmony
Module 6: Rhythm and Meter
Each module consists of a written lesson supplemented with video tutorials. These lessons are supported by a live online weekly tutorial with the instructor (Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.), who will answer questions about that week’s module.
Although the course is designed to move through each module week by week, students may work at their own pace; students who may have already mastered a given subject may test out of that module and work ahead if they so choose.
Cost: $150
