Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University has introduced enterprise e-commerce system Destiny One for a new public-facing website and user portal that allows current and future professional development participants to browse and sign-up for non-credit courses, workshops and certificates offered by the university.
The new website, with its enhanced, user-friendly features, combined with the recently renamed Continuing Education department, reflects Laurier’s investment in non-traditional student pathways and credential innovation.
“Laurier’s Strategic Plan, with a focus on credential innovation, spurred this collaborative web project,” says Lindsay Tayler, coordinator: Office of Continuing Education. “Growing the continuing education offerings across Laurier in an effort to increase revenues and enhance the non-credit student experience is a key priority for the institution and one that we’re excited to be making headway on.”
The website project began in January 2020 with a cross-departmental group of program stakeholders, led by ICT and eLearning professionals. Destiny One, the platform behind Laurier Continuing Education, was selected to replace Course Merchant after a comprehensive review of program areas’ requirements and user testing.
“The previous system was suitable to function as a basic e-commerce system, but to meet our needs as program facilitators and to meet the needs of those seeking continuing education opportunities, we required a more robust system,” says Tayler. “Destiny One allows for a better user experience.”
The move to Destiny One means that program facilitators have more options and a more streamlined experience in the management of continuing education student data and enrollments. Potential participants and website visitors will have a modernized “online shopping” experience when browsing and registering for programs.
Those currently registered in continuing education programming can now manage their enrollments, register for upcoming programs and seamlessly access the online components of their courses or certificates on MyLearningSpace, Laurier’s learning management system.
Most program offices that offer non-credit, professional development and continuing education have transitioned to the new platform. All continuing education courses and certificates are set to be available on the new website by winter 2021.
