Laurier has reimagined its successful transition and orientation program, offering virtual orientation events, live course registration support and Laurier Life, an exclusive online platform that allows incoming first-year students to connect with each other and learn everything about what it means to be a Laurier Golden Hawk.
Laurier 101 officially kicks off on June 1 with dedicated support, events, online workshops and self-guided resources. All of the resources are designed to foster academic success and keep students engaged up to and beyond their first day of class.
“The first-year experience has always been a priority at Laurier and the change in course delivery this fall has allowed us to apply our expertise to enhance our existing student supports,” says Kristiina Montero, interim associate vice-president of Teaching and Learning. “The virtual expansion of Laurier 101 is designed to help students navigate the new campus environment and discover their path to success in preparation for September.”
As part of Laurier 101, course registration support guides students through their program requirements, elective options and timetable development before they register for their first classes. Faculty members and professional staff in areas including academic advising, student academic success, residence life, career services, wellness, and accessible learning are engaged as part of the Laurier 101 program through a variety of online sessions planned throughout the summer. Students can have their questions answered through virtual “Ask Us Anything” events.
“There is a lot of uncertainty for all students heading into the fall term,” says Montero. “One of the things we know for certain is that we’re ready to provide the class of 2024 with a seamless transition into life at Laurier.”
Parents and those supporting students can engage with Laurier 101 by registering for bi-weekly email updates and through the Helping Your Hawk Soar webinar. Students who accept their offer to study at Laurier will receive confirmation of their enrollment in Laurier 101 via email during June.
