The series kicked off Sept. 9 with the online lecture “Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in School and Communities” by Ardavan Eizadirad, an assistant professor in Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Education. Eizadirad discussed the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion to create an environment that reflects the needs of vulnerable students and community members.
Forty guests tuned into the hour-long lecture and engaged in a moderated question-and-answer period over Zoom. All nine lectures in this year’s series will take place online due to COVID-19. The transition from in-person lectures at the Milton Public Library to a fully online format has not ebbed the enthusiasm for new knowledge and community engagement.
“The Laurier Milton Lecture Series continues to reflect the incredible expertise and passion of Laurier faculty members and ongoing interest among the Milton community,” says Carolyn Hawthorn, associate director of Laurier’s strategic initiatives in Milton. “The series builds on feedback from the community, which results in meaningful experiences to learn about topics of significant interest.”
Lectures take place from 7 to 8 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month and are free to attend.
Additional lectures to be held this fall include:
