Print | PDFThere are currently a number of significant wildfires burning in the Northwest Territories in communities where Laurier has strong ties and research partnerships. Our thoughts are with our colleagues, friends and partners who are impacted by this devastation, and who have lost their homes and businesses.
Many of these communities are being evacuated, including Yellowknife, where Laurier maintains research facilities. As of Aug. 16, anyone remaining in the city has been asked to leave by noon on Aug. 18. All Laurier faculty, staff and students currently in the Northwest Territories have been offered aid by the university and are safe at this time. Travel arrangements are in place for evacuation and are being coordinated by Laurier’s Office of Research Services.
If you would like to support the broader emergency response, please consider donating to the United Way NWT Emergency Response fund.
This is a frightening and difficult time in the Northwest Territories. Laurier will continue to work with our partner communities to support them during this time and in recovery.
Sincerely,
Deborah MacLatchy, PhD
