The University Employment Equity Advisory Committee (UEEAC) is an ongoing advisory team comprised of employees interested in working on employment equity-related initiatives. The group identifies barriers to employment equity and provides support and feedback to administration on resource development and initiative planning.
The UEEAC is comprised of four working groups:
With the goal of creating inclusive and affirming environments for individuals who identify as trans or gender non-conforming, the Women and LGBTQ2S+ Working Group developed a resource for employees on Connect (Laurier's intranet for faculty and staff). This resource is intended to serve as a guide for staff, managers and department leaders to work toward creating inclusive administrative practices. It provides information for employees about steps to take if they need an accommodation at work and ways to create inclusive practices within their role at Laurier.
With the goal of creating an environment in which Indigenous values are acknowledged and celebrated at Laurier, the group, in collaboration with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives developed the Indigenization section on Laurier's website. The website provides a centralized platform that showcases Indigenous initiatives, supports, programs, community outreach efforts, ceremonies and healing as well as research.
With the goal of empowering members of our community to be champions of a barrier free environment and to gain an understanding of the resources available and how to access them, this group worked to refresh and enhance the resources and information available through Laurier's web properties, including accessibiliy on Laurier's website.
With the goal of enhancing equity-related and anti-racism resources, the group developed a toolkit for faculty and staff that provides information about a selection of human rights and equity-related observances. The toolkit provides tips about ways in which the Laurier community can show support to the communities addressed and increase awareness.
