BA (Hons) Political Science, Glendon College, York University; MA and PhD Political Science, University of Toronto. Taught at Carleton for many years (Public Policy and Administration, Institute of Political Economy, Sociology and Anthropology department). At Laurier since January 2010. Cross-appointed to the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
I have worked on the politics of industrial and labour market restructuring in comparative perspective; child care politics, cross-national and transnational; the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as a source of social, gender and labour market policies. Current projects include migration, gender and the work of care (a major Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council project headed by Professor Ito Peng) and the incorporation of feminist ideas into the OECD’s social, migration and labour market policies and development assistance.
I have supervised theses in a wide range of areas particularly having to do with the political economy of scale, labour, gender, industrial restructuring, social policy, childcare politics and global social governance. I have done a lot of work on Sweden and Canada and have a strong interest in Latin America and North East Asia. I have just received a SSHRC research grant on the gendering of development assistance, according to the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee and am also part of a larger project on migration, gender and the work of care, with a particular focus on the international governance of migrant care workers.
