I received my PhD in cultural and historical geography from Queen’s University in 2000 and my MSc in conservation forestry and Western African fire ecology from the University of Freiburg in 1990.
Prior to joining Laurier, I taught at the Bader International Study Centre at Herstmonceux Castle in the United Kingdom.
My research examines the use of landscape imagery (forests in particular) in the formation and maintenance of nationalism and its symbols. I focus on the history of forests, foresters and forestry in 19th and 20th century Europe.
I am willing to supervise students in the areas of cultural and historical geography, forest history and environmental history.
