I earned my PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Western Ontario in 2014, following an Honors Bachelor of Health Sciences with a minor in Anthropology from the same institution in 2007. After completing my doctoral studies, I worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the HIV Prevention Lab at the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University from 2014 to 2016, under the supervision of Dr. Trevor Hart. Before my appointment in the Department of Health Sciences in 2017, I worked as a Public Health Epidemiologist.
My research primarily focuses on population and community health, and associated research methodologies. I explore health disparities based on sexual orientation and gender identities, focusing on topics such as access to healthcare services, mental health, chronic and infectious diseases, including HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. My work encompasses these health issues across various levels—individuals, families, communities, and populations. Additionally, I collaborate with community representatives on community-based research initiatives aimed at empowering underserved populations to undertake rigorous, community- and policy-relevant research.
Please note that from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, I will be on sabbatical and will not be available for student supervision until September 2025.
I will begin considering requests for Master's students seeking supervision in Health Sciences in late 2024/early 2025, for admission in September 2025.
For undergraduate Health Sciences students interested in directed studies courses or thesis projects for the 2024-25 school year, please be aware that I will also not be accepting any students until September 2025 due to my sabbatical. I welcome inquiries and supervisions (for directed studies courses or thesis projects for the 2024-25 school year) beginning in early 2025.
