The City of Waterloo is a vibrant, mid-sized Canadian city located about 100 kilometers west of Toronto. Together with neighbouring cities of Kitchener and Cambridge, the region, sometimes referred to as “Silicon Valley North,” is a dynamic hub for tech startups.
It is a college town known for innovation, research, and a high quality of life with numerous parks, restaurants, art galleries, festivals, skiing, and farmers’ markets. One out of four residents were born outside Canada.
The three cities and surrounding small towns are growing fast, and comprise the 10th-largest metropolitan area in Canada with nearly 700,000 people.
The university’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) office is supported by Associate Vice-President Dr. Andrea Davis.
Increasing representation from equity seeking groups strengthens Laurier’s research efforts and the university as a whole. Building EDI into Laurier’s research enterprise proactively and collectively works towards eliminating systemic barriers faced by equity-deserving groups.
Canadian research councils recognize that achieving a more equitable, diverse and inclusive research enterprise is essential to research excellence. An equitable research environment advances knowledge and understanding, and responds to local, national and global challenges.
U.S. applicants accepted into the PhD program will be funded for up to four years. PhD students in the Lazaridis School are guaranteed a minimum of $24,000 per year for up to four years, which is inclusive of transferred studies.*
Additionally, international tuition costs for the PhD program will be offset by a scholarship that equals 100% of the difference between international and domestic tuition. International students in the MA in Business Economics program are eligible to receive financial support ranging from $3,000 to $20,000, including teaching assistantships, scholarships, partial tuition waivers and more.
