Rima Khatib is an Assistant Professor of Business Technology Management at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University. She is a passionate and dedicated educator with research and teaching interests in the management of information technology, information security, cybersecurity, and the educational applications of artificial intelligence.
Rima Khatib’s current research focuses on the use of Generative AI (GenAI) in education to enhance student learning and support effective teaching practices. She explores how GenAI tools can be designed and integrated into the classroom to improve engagement, personalize feedback, and promote student learning. Her work was recognized with a Best Paper nomination at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS).
As part of her commitment to educational innovation, Rima has led several GenAI-based projects, contributing to measurable improvements in student learning outcomes. She continues to experiment with GenAI applications across multiple courses, designing tutorials, prompts, and interactive tools to help students engage more deeply with course material.
In parallel, Rima maintains an active research stream in Information and Cybersecurity Management, where she has examined organizational and behavioral factors influencing employee non-compliance with information security policies. Her current work in this area investigates cybersecurity awareness and privacy concerns surrounding emerging digital technologies. She has contributed expert commentary on these topics to media outlets such as CTV News and The Record.
Educational Project
Rima also leads a youth-focused cybersecurity education initiative. Through the development of www.hawkseducation.com, a student-created website, she supports the delivery of engaging, gamified content aimed at raising cybersecurity awareness among young learners. The project integrates experiential learning with real-world relevance, empowering students to co-create content while educating their peers.
