Sapna Isotupa is a professor of Operations and Decision Sciences at the School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University. Isotupa received her PhD in Mathematics from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. Her primary research interest is in the area of mathematical modeling of stochastic systems. Her current research topics include stochastic inventory systems, queueing systems and workforce management.
One of the biggest challenges facing organizations today is the need to respond to ever increasing levels of uncertainty in demand. Some companies are addressing this issue by pooling inventories for different types of customers and then rationing inventory among customer classes, thus giving the company agility in satisfying customer demand. One of my research projects deals with analyzing these types of inventory systems and determining efficient policies for rationing. A second project deals with developing risk management strategies for global supply chains to limit the disruption of getting goods to customers due to disruptions along the supply chain.
