Shelley McGill is a professor in the Policy and Law area of the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University and adjunct faculty at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She is a lawyer holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Western University and a Master of Laws (LLM) from York University. Professor McGill is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario and was a partner in the firm of Sims Clement Eastman prior to joining Wilfrid Laurier University. She is a Deputy Judge of the Ontario Small Claims Court, a division of the Superior Court of Justice and an author of The Law and Business Administration in Canada, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th editions.
Professor McGill has published more than 20 academic journal articles and has received distinguished article awards from the American Business Law Journal and the Journal of Legal Studies Education. The International Academy of Legal Studies in Business named Professor McGill as a finalist for the Holmes Cardozo Research Award in 2015. She has designed and implemented dispute resolution processes for organizations including the Better Business Bureau and Kitchener Small Claims Court.
At the Lazaridis School, Professor McGill has served as Director of Undergraduate Business Programs and thereafter, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Business Programs. Professor McGill teaches Business Law in the BBA, MBA and MIPP programs.
Business law , consumer protection and access to justice. In 2012, Professor McGill was awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Insight Development Grant to study access to justice in small claims court.
