I received my MLIS from Dalhousie University in 2010, where I studied information policy, governmental information organization and its social implications, and information literacy. My professional work lies in data librarianship and government information, data management and open data.
My research interests lie in access to government information, research data management and open data in Canada. Technological advancements and social demands for greater access to government information affect the way that public research is conducted and how people find government information today. My focus lies in policy drivers and implications in both areas.
I have student assistantship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students interested in encoding survey data for public access and use on odesi, our socio-economic data delivery system. Contact me for more information.
I help faculty and students find and use socio-economic data and statistics in their research. As the liaison to Statistics Canada, I collect survey microdata, connect researchers with government analysts and encode datasets for use. In the classroom, I introduce students and faculty to Canadian and international socio-economic data resources, and I consult on individual and team-based research projects.
I also manage the Laurier Library’s Research Data Management Programme. I coordinate the Library’s services and tools that help researchers meet their funding obligations for the management and preservation of their data. I also consult on policy implications and recommend suitable repositories for students and faculty to store their data.
