Wilfrid Laurier University (Laurier) intends to pursue the emergency retention mechanism to nominate a current Laurier faculty member for a Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC).
The nominee is an exceptional researcher who is being actively recruited by another institution. The scholar contributes substantially to Laurier’s research portfolio and conducts a research program that is well aligned with our Strategic Research Plan and Strategic Academic Plan. The CRC nomination will allow Laurier to further advance a key strategic area of research differentiation at the institution. The nominee has established themselves as an internationally recognized scholar, with extensive networks, robust external funding and a highly sought after training program for students. The loss of this scholar would have significant detrimental impacts on the Laurier research community.
Laurier is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty. The institution’s Canada Research Chair Equity, Diversity and Inclusion targets for the four designated groups were taken into consideration when making this decision.
This decision has been approved by Jonathan Newman, Vice-President, Research (jonathannewman@wlu.ca) and Maureen Mancuso, Provost & Vice-President, Academic (mmancuso@wlu.ca).
