Core Sciences is an alternate offer of admission for Faculty of Science applicants who did not meet the admission requirements for their chosen science program. Core Sciences is designed to enable students to enrol at Laurier and begin taking introductory science and elective courses of interest. With the help of our Faculty of Science advising team, you can prepare to transfer into a Faculty of Science program at the end of your first year.
Instead of giving you an alternate offer to a science program you might not be interested in, Core Sciences enables you to enrol in Laurier and gain access to supports so that you can select a Faculty of Science program that best suits your interests and goals following your first year of studies.
You'll get to participate in all aspects of student life as you begin studying introductory science courses such as biology, chemistry, computer science
As a student, you'll study with other Faculty of Science students, learn from award-winning faculty and researchers, can live in residence and use all student services.
If you've received an alternate offer of admission to Core Sciences, we recognize your academic achievement and there's a place for you here at Laurier. Core Sciences is designed to help you prepare to enrol in a Faculty of Science program.

We're confident that by starting your Laurier career in Core Sciences, you're building the foundation for continued success throughout your time as a student.
As stated in your offer of admission letter, Wilfrid Laurier University reserves the right to rescind or revise your offer if the conditions listed are not met by the deadline stated in your offer of admission letter.

Academic advisors are student support staff who work collaboratively with students to help them reach their education- and career-related goals. They will also help you come up with a personalized academic plan, choose courses and ensure you are meeting program requirements needed to graduate. You are encouraged to meet with an advisor throughout your time as a student.
Our advisors will help you select appropriate courses for you to take based on your past academic achievement and your current interests. They will also help you create a personalized plan for success and connect you with any relevant support services such as Student Success services, accessible learning services and more.
The Faculty of Science academic advising team will reach out to all Core Science students by email in June to provide guidance for choosing your courses. You may take a range of science courses such as biology, chemistry, computer science and psychology based on your academic background and interests. Registration support is available to all incoming students through the Laurier 101 transition program.
An academic advisor will work with you to best utilize your transfer credits and help you map out what courses you will take to complete your degree. Transfer credits will be taken into consideration when an advisor is working with you to help you choose courses and when you're ready to transfer into a Faculty of Science program.

Transferring into another program, following your first year, is dependent upon space availability and the number of transfer requests in each calendar year.
Yes! When you transfer into your program you will be able to personalize your degree with minors and options. You will be able to create a plan to tailor your degree and complete the requirements for an option or minor with an academic advisor.
Students apply for co-op at the end of their first year and are selected on the basis of their grades, work experience, volunteer and co-curricular activities, and performance in an interview. After you transfer from Core Sciences into a program, you will be eligible to apply for co-op.
