For Immediate Release
Update: Winter's a Drag event is moving indoors; see the update issued March 22.
BRANTFORD – Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus will celebrate the arrival of spring with Winter’s a Drag, a colourful performance by professional drag artists at Harmony Square (89 Dalhousie St., Brantford, ON). Community members are welcome to attend the free, open-air event on March 23 starting at 7:15 p.m.
The performers take the stage at 8 p.m. Hot chocolate and Laurier gear will be provided while quantities last, and prizes will be awarded throughout the evening, including gift cards to select downtown Brantford businesses. Limited seating is available, and guests are welcome to bring their own portable chairs.
“Campus and community are so closely linked in Brantford,” said Heidi Northwood, Senior Executive Officer of Laurier’s Brantford Campus. “After two years of pandemic-related challenges including an inability to get together in person, we hope that this fun, entertaining evening will provide students with opportunities to spark meaningful connections with their peers and with members of the Brantford community. We are so pleased to be fully on campus again, and we look forward to reconnecting with our many community partners and forging new friendships.”
Winter’s a Drag will be the first public in-person event mounted by the Brantford campus since the beginning of the global pandemic. Planning is led by Beth Sanders, Laurier’s Campus Experience Coordinator, a role created to bridge the Laurier campus and Brantford community in meaningful ways that contribute to the overall vibrancy of downtown Brantford. Funded by the Laurier Student Life Levy, the event is billed as a celebration of talent and self-expression, and will feature prizes, glow furniture and a drag show spotlighting five performers from Vision Drag Artists.
Plans for the event comply with all university and public health guidelines.
