Laurier to graduate 3,539 students at spring convocation

WATERLOO — Wilfrid Laurier University will celebrate the accomplishments of approximately 3,539 graduating students at convocation ceremonies on its Brantford and Waterloo campuses.

Two Brantford campus ceremonies will take place at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts on June 4. The Waterloo campus will hold 13 ceremonies at the Lazaridis Hall Auditorium from June 10-14.

As of May 27, 2,904 students qualified to graduate in Waterloo, while 635 qualified to graduate in Brantford. Laurier expects to confer 2,913 undergraduate degrees, 532 graduate degrees and 94 diplomas this month.

Five accomplished people will receive honorary degrees at the spring convocation ceremonies, and three recently honoured professors will be acknowledged. They are listed by ceremony below:

June 4, 10 a.m., Brantford

• Doctor of Letters: Shelley Niro, multidisciplinary artist and Indigenous activist

June 4, 2 p.m., Brantford

• Doctor of Laws: Dave Levac, former Ontario Speaker of the House

June 10, 9:30 a.m., Waterloo

• Doctor of Laws: Mike Richter, clean energy executive and former NHL goaltender  

June 11, 4 p.m., Waterloo

• Faculty Award for Service Excellence and Community Engagement: Pam Bryden, professor and chair, Faculty of Science

June 13, 9:30 a.m., Waterloo

• Doctor of Letters: Louise Penny, bestselling novelist 
• University Research Professor: Stacey Hannem, professor, Department of Criminology

June 14, 9:30 a.m., Waterloo

• Doctor of Music: Bruce Cockburn, Canadian music legend and activist
• Faculty Award for Service Excellence and Community Engagement: Steve Sider, professor, Faculty of Education 

All convocation ceremonies are ticketed events. For those unable to attend, live streams of the ceremonies will be available.
