Print | PDFLaurier’s Faculty of Science Students’ Association will hold its first Undergraduate Research Conference on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, with guest speakers Bill Nye the Science Guy and alumna Michelle Gould (B.Sc. '12) making keynote presentations.
The conference is designed to provide an opportunity for students to present their research projects and honours thesis posters in a conference setting, as well as engage with professors to discuss research opportunities.
Presentations will begin at 9 a.m. each day, with Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Kinesiology students presenting on Saturday until 3 p.m. and Health Sciences and Psychology students presenting on Sunday until 6 p.m. Student presentations will be followed by keynote presentations on both days of the conference.
Gould will speak on April 10 at 4 p.m. Gould entered Laurier’s Health Sciences program at the age of 15. She is now chief fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Nye, a well-known mechanical engineer, science communicator and television presenter, will speak on April 11 at 7 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public, but registration is required.
Students introducing their research will present in 45-minute time slots. All student presenters will receive a certificate to verify they have presented at an official undergraduate research conference.
Students who attend at least five student presentations, as well as both guest keynote presentations, will be entered for a chance to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards.
