Print | PDFIt is with profound sadness that Wilfrid Laurier University mourns the loss of first-year Computer Science student David Marques-Domingos, who died on Dec. 30, 2020 at age 18.
David’s family will remember him as a bestower of smiles who lived life “free like a bird.” David’s passion for computers first led him to become the family’s IT guru, and then to Laurier where David quickly became actively involved with the residence community.
“We are profoundly saddened to learn about David’s untimely death,” said Kate McCrae Bristol, Dean of Students. “While I did not know David personally, we have learned through conversations with those closest to him that this young man had a remarkable spirit and was greatly loved.”
The Dean of Students has been in touch with the Marques-Domingos family to offer the Laurier community’s heartfelt sympathies and support. Flags will be lowered to half-mast across the university.
A private family funeral service has been held, and information on a memorial fund set up by David’s family can be found at Catholic Cemeteries and Funeral Services.
The university is extending support and counselling services to students who knew David. Losing a student has a deep impact on the entire Laurier community. The university is focused on supporting each other and ensuring the wellbeing of students, faculty and staff. Those who need assistance are encouraged to access the following services:
