Print | PDFThe Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work held its annual Field Instructor Appreciation Event on June 15, 2021. The virtual event, hosted by the Master of Social Work (MSW) field team, celebrated instructors in the field who support MSW student placements. Due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the appreciation event for 2019-2020 was postponed. The recent celebration included nominees and recipients for the past two academic years.
The evening began with a presentation by Kitchener Centre MPP Laura Mae Lindo, who engaged the audience with her talk “Resistance as an Act of Love: Putting Critical Race Theory into Practice.” Participants later engaged in small group discussions about the topic.
Field Dedication Awards were presented to three community partners: the Delton Glebe Counselling Centre, KW Counselling and Oleksandr (Sasha) Kondrashov. The MSW field team recognizes the impact of the pandemic on agencies and field instructors and is grateful for their ongoing support.
Shannel Butt, CMHA Elgin, and Kelly Gordon, Stratford General Hospital, were recipients of Field Instructor Awards for 2019-20 and 2020-21, respectively. Their former MSW practicum students presented the rationale for their nominations and presented the awards. All award recipients received a plaque and will have their names added to plaques that adorn the halls at Laurier’s Faculty of Social Work.
In addition, the following field instructor nominees were recognized:
