Led by Laurier Symphony Orchestra director Kira Omelchenko, the event will mark the return to in-person ensemble rehearsals for Laurier student musicians in the Theatre Auditorium since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The rehearsal will include music that pays tribute to the resiliency and determination of Laurier student musicians through the many challenges created by the pandemic. Performances will include Warrior Legacy by Soon Hee Newbold and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Symphonic Suite.
“Sharing live music online is a way to connect with the community, to showcase the talents and passions of Laurier music students and celebrate the return to making music in person," says Omelchenko. “It is also an opportunity for prospective students and their families to view what Laurier music students are currently doing.”
The rehearsal will also be posted to the Faculty of Music’s YouTube channel following the event.
The Laurier Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform on Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Performance details will be announced closer to the event, which will adhere to public health recommendations regarding indoor public events. Follow the Faculty of Music at Laurier on Facebook for information.
