Print | PDFOn Nov. 2, more than 1,500 students will graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University. Virtual celebrations are planned, with degrees and diplomas either picked up in person or sent by courier to graduates.
While in-person convocation ceremonies remain postponed for the time being, Laurier graduates will be able to hear remarks from Laurier’s Chancellor Eileen Mercier and President and Vice-Chancellor Deborah MacLatchy through a video on the graduation celebration site. Graduates' names will be announced during the video.
Graduates will also receive a special keepsake box, which will include their diploma or degree, a message from the university president and Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association, as well as small mementos.
As of the end of October, 1,039 undergraduate students are set to graduate, along with 468 graduate students and 89 diploma students. Graduates from Laurier’s Waterloo campus (1,443) and Brantford campus (153) will celebrate together online.
To help graduates and their friends and family celebrate, the Get Ready. Set. Celebrate! website includes Laurier-themed Zoom desktop and mobile backgrounds; GIFs and graphics for social media use; printable cake toppers, lawn and window signs; discounted frames; recipes for Laurier-themed cupcakes and Wilf’s famous spinach dip; and a celebratory Spotify playlist.
The site also includes information about the many benefits and supports graduates have as new Laurier alumni.
Laurier community members are invited to join the celebration on social media using the hashtag #ForeverGolden and tagging Laurier’s accounts:
When posting on social, search for "Laurier" in GIFs for convocation-inspired stickers and animations.
