Print | PDFIt will be a sweet start to a long-standing tradition at Wilfrid Laurier University.
On Oct. 7, Laurier will officially kick off its 32nd annual fundraising campaign in support of United Way Waterloo Region Communities and Brant United Way with an online butter tart baking tutorial led by Laurier staff member Julie Pong.
Pong, who manages Laurier’s dual Bachelor of Arts and Law degree program, will share her sought-after butter tart recipe while participants follow along from home. The tutorial – taking place from noon until 1 p.m. – also features a competitive component. Guest judges will award a prize to the Laurier baker with the most creative apron or chef’s hat.
Laurier participants will come away from the tutorial with one dozen of Pong’s beloved butter tarts and a side of Golden Hawk pride knowing they have helped those who benefit from services provided by United Way Waterloo Region Communities and Brant United Way.
“Laurier is proud to support the communities in which our campuses reside,” says Bridget McMahon, assistant vice-president: alumni and community engagement and co-chair of Laurier’s United Way committee. “Laurier’s fundraising for United Way continues to gain momentum and we hope to exceed our 2020 campaign total this year so that we can elevate support for those in need in our communities.”
Laurier raised more than $84,000 for United Way Waterloo Region Communities and Brant United Way in 2020, exceeding its campaign goal for the second consecutive year. United Way supports much-needed community organizations and programs, including the Sexual Assault Centre of Waterloo Region, Compass Refugee Centre, the Family Counselling Centre of Brant and Brant Food for Thought, among others.
