Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University is saddened by the passing of Alicia McKenzie, a contract teaching faculty member in the university's Faculty of Arts.
A beloved instructor, valued colleague and friend to many in Medieval Studies, History and across the university, Alicia began teaching at Laurier in September 2008. She inspired countless students, many of whom enrolled in her courses specifically because of her reputation as an outstanding instructor. Alicia's talent and dedication were deeply apparent, as was the care and guidance she provided to students.
Members of the university community can share messages of condolence with Alicia’s family by visiting the office of Robin Waugh, program coordinator for Medieval Studies, on Tuesday, April 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., where cards will be available to sign. The office is located in Room 3-118 of the Dr. Alvin Woods Building on the Waterloo campus. An online book of condolences is also available as part of the Logan Evans Funeral Home memorial to Alicia.
Alicia will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Laurier will fly its campus flags at half-mast in her honour and details about a memorial service will be shared when they become available.
Losing an instructor has a profound impact on the university. Laurier's focus is on ensuring the wellbeing of all students, faculty and staff. The following services and supports are available to members of the university community:
