Wilfrid Laurier University invites students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to learn more about the histories of Asian communities in Canada and reflect on the historical journeys and ongoing struggles faced by Asian and other racialized communities. The symposium’s keynote lecture will be presented by Evyn Le Espiritu Gandhi, an assistant professor of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Le Espiritu Ghandi will discuss themes covered in her forthcoming book, Archipelago of Resettlement: Vietnamese Refugee Settlers and Decolonization across Guam and Israel-Palestine. Participants will learn concrete strategies for addressing and dismantling racism in teaching and research contexts. Resources for additional review will also be provided.
Faculty and staff can access an anti-racism resource tool kit on Laurier Connect. The tool kit contains suggested books, podcasts, films and reports that address multiple forms of racism.
