Print | PDFIsabella Brodeur (BBA '23), a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Business Administration program at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, has been selected for a McCall MacBain Regional Award.
The award recognizes engaged student leaders who have demonstrated exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength and intellectual curiosity. It provides $5,000 toward a full-time master’s or professional program at any public university in Canada. Brodeur placed among the top 95 of more than 700 Canadian applicants.
At Laurier, Brodeur helped run the Lazaridis Students’ Society (LazSoc), led several case competition teams, contributed to the LazSoc Business and Economics Review, and founded and wrote for the biweekly MorningByte newsletter. Since 2014, she has volunteered for a Toronto District School Board summer program. She has worked as a junior analyst for a startup venture fund and is applying for law school.
“Receiving this scholarship is an incredible opportunity that will support me on my path to becoming an effective lawyer,” says Brodeur. “I feel immensely grateful for this honour and hope to use my experiences to advocate for vulnerable children in education law matters, while pursuing broader educational reform.”
McCall MacBain Scholarships are the result of a landmark $200-million gift in 2019, then the largest single donation in Canadian history, by John and Marcy McCall MacBain. Applications will open in June 2024 for Sept. 2025 admission. In addition to 30 fully funded scholarships, up to 100 awards of $5,000 to $20,000 will be offered.
Previous McCall MacBain scholars from Laurier include Global Studies student Hayley Newman-Petryshen, who was one of 20 Canadians chosen to receive a full scholarship in 2021, and Opera student Olivia Haramis, who received a Regional Award in 2022.
