Print | PDFWhat interests me the most about the subjects I'm studying is their potential to positively impact individuals and our society. I love learning about human behavior and cognition and I've already gained a wealth of knowledge that helps me better understand and help others.
What I find most rewarding about being a student in the Psychology program is the opportunity to explore the complexities of mental health and its real-world impacts. I’m most excited about the opportunity to engage in hands-on research, such as my current Laurier Scholars research project on student mental health and the use and accessibility of services.
I chose Laurier for a few reasons. I wanted to be a part of a university where I wasn’t just a number in a class, but my professors knew me by name. I was drawn to Laurier’s commitment to encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones, which has proven to be a remarkable aspect of my journey here.
Through clubs such as the Laurier Psychology Society, Her Campus and the Association of Black Students, I’ve met some incredible people. I’ve held executive roles on World University Service of Canada and science clubs, which have allowed me to contribute meaningfully to both campus and community initiatives. Being a notetaker for courses through the Accessible Learning Centre has not only enhanced my own understanding of class material, but also given me the chance to help others along their academic journey.
Through navigating the complexities of coursework, managing time effectively and balancing extracurricular commitments, I've developed many skills. These skills have given me a stronger sense of self and Laurier’s supportive community and resources have empowered me to better prepare for the future.
My passion for understanding and supporting individuals on their mental health journeys drives me to pursue a master’s in counseling psychology, with a goal of focusing on family and couples’ therapy.
