Print | PDFWilfrid Laurier University mourns the passing of John Paul Glaves, manager of research partnerships in the Office of Research Services (ORS). He passed away on Nov. 5 at the age of 43.
John Paul joined Laurier in September 2022 following many years of service for the Government of Alberta. He was a valuable addition to the ORS team, fostering collaborations through Laurier’s research partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories. John Paul also supported the university’s 23 research centres, seeking ways to enhance their impact and community engagement. He is remembered as a treasured colleague.
“John Paul was known for his quick wit and ‘dad jokes,’ always leaving us laughing,” says Charity Parr-Vasquez, assistant vice-president of research. “He was kind, generous and dedicated to his work. John Paul will be deeply missed and leaves a legacy of warmth, friendship and humour that we will carry forward.”
John Paul was a beloved father, husband and hockey coach, and the Laurier community extends sympathy to his loved ones at this difficult time.
Visitations for John Paul will be held on Nov. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home in Paris, Ont., followed by a funeral service on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the same location. The funeral will be livestreamed beginning at 10:50 a.m.
John Paul’s family invites friends and colleagues to make donations in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. The Brantford 99ers U12 B/BB hockey team, which he coached, has set up a Hockey Fights Cancer fundraising page.
As Laurier mourns the loss of John Paul, the university reminds staff, faculty and students of the support services available:
