Not only does practicing chamber music open up a diverse and expansive range of beautiful repertoire to explore, it is also the most enjoyable way to practice music. Chamber music is a joy shared between equal partners who are working together to create a thing of perfection and beauty.”
—Earl Carlyss, longstanding former member of the Juilliard String Quartet, Juilliard faculty, former head of strings department at Peabody Conservatory and Indiana University, and longtime director of the Aspen Center for Quartet Studies
Joining a chamber group or small ensemble is one of the most collaborative ways to make music. Each member of the group has their own individual part to play and develop, but at the same time all of the group members must learn to play as one. Ensemble playing develops both musical and interpersonal skills with group members learning to listen and watch each other closely, sometimes leading and other times following. With the unique combination of instrumental timbres, group members develop greater musical imagination and performance confidence.
The Laurier Academy of Music and Arts welcomes anyone playing any instrument and reading repertoire at an RCM grade 4 and above to join our Chamber Music program. The coaches will pair you with in a chamber group and coach, depending on playing level, age, instrument, and rehearsal availability.
Students/parents will receive a monthly invoice based on the number of rehearsals scheduled.
