How We Make Admission Decisions

  • We reserve the right to consider additional academic information, which may impact the status of your application, including but not limited to: repeated courses, consistency, and when and where courses and/or tests were completed.
  • You will receive an admission decision on each application you submit to Laurier (up to a maximum of three programs).
  • You will automatically be considered for admission to an alternate program if you aren’t eligible for your program of choice. To receive an alternate offer of admission, you must meet the admission requirements for the alternate program.
  • We may use wait lists for competitive programs. If you are placed on a wait list, you will also receive an offer of admission to an alternate program.

Timing of Offers

Ontario Secondary School Applicants

Admission decisions are made on an ongoing basis between December and May. For us to assess your application, we need to see enough grade information to be able to give you an admission decision.

You may receive an offer of admission at a different time than other applicants depending on the time of year and your progress in your Grade 12 year. Don’t worry though, if we don’t have enough grade information to give you an offer of admission when we look at your application, we will wait until we receive updated grades before we assess your application and provide an admission decision. All offers of admission are conditional until final grades are received by the Recruitment and Admissions office in July.

Depending on what grade information is available to us, we will review your grade information to see if you are eligible for admission to your program based on the following information.

Scenario 1:

  • Your application is assessed using your best five 3U/M courses.
  • You must be enrolled in six 4U/M courses, including any prerequisite courses for your program.

Scenario 2:

  • Your application is assessed using your best six 3U/M and/or 4U/M courses, which includes at least three 4U/M courses in your best six.
  • You must be enrolled in six 4U/M courses, including any prerequisite courses required for your program.

Scenario 3:

  • Your application is assessed using your best six grade 4U/M midterm or final grades.
  • Your best six 4 U/M grades include any prerequisite courses required for your program.

All Other Applicants

Admissions decisions are made on an ongoing basis. We must receive your required documents before we can assess your application. An admission decision is typically made within three to four weeks of us receiving your complete application. For competitive programs, admission decisions may take longer than four weeks.

Alternate Offers

If you aren't eligible for admission into the program that you applied to, you will be automatically considered for an alternate offer of admission.

You will be considered for an alternate program that has space availability, provided that you meet the minimum admission requirements for that program as well.

Laurier cannot guarantee a specific program as an alternate offer before we assess your application, particularly for competitive programs. This means that you should apply to every program that you want to be considered for admission to.

Multiple Offers of Admission

Students can apply to up to three programs at Laurier and will receive an admission decision on each application submitted through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC).
