We understand that circumstances may prevent you from enrolling for the term specified in your offer of admission. In such cases, a deferral of admission may be granted to you.
Deferrals of one year may be granted to students attending Laurier for the first time. Please note that deferrals are not guaranteed. We will email you after the deferral deadline to inform you if your deferral request has been granted or denied.
If your request to defer is granted, you will receive an email from us the following year to request that you reconfirm your offer of admission by completing a readmission form.
Read through the following information, including the rules for deferring, and then complete the Deferral Checklist to submit your deferral request.

You will be reassessed for an entrance scholarship the year you plan to enrol at Laurier. You receive half the value of your entrance scholarship in your first term and half in your second term. You must be registered in a full-time courseload - minimum 2.0 credits per term for at least two terms per academic year (September to August) - to receive your full entrance scholarship amount.
Entrance bursaries cannot be deferred; however, you will have the opportunity to apply for an entrance bursary again in the year you plan to enrol at Laurier. You will have to provide updated financial information.
You can apply for the Laurier tuition bursary if you do not receive an entrance bursary.
If you wish to live in residence beginning in a fall term, apply for residence and submit the non-refundable deposit by the June deadline of the academic year you will start studying. For all other terms, contact housing@wlu.ca to inquire about space availability.
You will receive an email from us the following year to request that you reconfirm your offer of admission by completing a readmission form.
Decision processes vary by year based on the number of deferrals received, the program of study, the reasoning of request, etc. We encourage you to utilize the space on the deferral form to explain why you are requesting a deferral.
If you enrol in academic courses at another postsecondary education institution during your deferment period, your offer of admission will be voided. You will have to reapply to Laurier and disclose your new academic information to the Recruitment and Admissions office.
You can enrol in secondary school if you would like to. You will be required to submit an updated transcript to the Recruitment and Admissions office. You will be reassessed for an updated scholarship.
If you are approved for a deferral, your deferral is only valid for the program you accepted your offer to on OUAC. If you want to be considered for a new program, you must submit a new application through the OUAC.
Yes, you should register in courses because deferrals are not guaranteed. Deferral requests are not reviewed until after the deferral application deadline. If your deferral is accepted, you should drop any courses you have registered in.
If you deferred your offer of admission in 2024 and are now looking to start your degree at Laurier in Sept. 2025, you will need to reconfirm your offer so that we know you still plan on joining us this fall.
You can only defer an offer of admission for up to one year. Should you decide not to start your studies at Laurier during a term following that one year, you will be required to reapply for admission.
If you have not completed the Readmission Form for Deferred Students before the deadline, we suggest reaching out to our Admissions team to discuss your options. Connect with our team at chooselaurier@wlu.ca or by calling 548.889.8888.
You are able to register in three terms when you accept an offer. If you decide not to register the first term you are admitted to, you can register for courses in your subsequent terms. We encourage you to reach out to Laurier 101/Academic Advising for support in selecting your courses in these cases.
If you are an applicant to our Bachelor of Education (BEd) program, please visit the BEd admitted students section for detailed instructions on deferring your offer for one calendar year.
