Degree Highlights

Your future professors work hard to keep your education relevant, well-rounded, and career-focused. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Make it Your Own: Audition into either Classical or Contemporary/Commercial lessons at the start of your degree, with the option to explore new styles through cross-training later on. Personalize your program by choosing from 10 specializations—select one or combine a few to match your interests, or follow a pathway into the Bachelor of Music Therapy.
  • A Community That Sees You: Laurier’s Faculty of Music is more than a place to study—it’s a close-knit, supportive community where you’ll be seen, heard, and valued. You’ll build strong relationships with professors through lessons, connect across genres with your peers, and grow in an inclusive environment that nurtures your unique musical voice.
  • Career-Ready Training: Graduate with the experience, skills and connections you need to succeed. Through partnerships with Metalworks Institute, the Suzuki String School of Guelph, and others, you’ll explore real-world music careers—from production and performance to teaching and entrepreneurship. Earn our Navigating the Music Industry Ecosystem certificate and build your resume through placements, guest artist collaborations, and leadership roles in ensembles and community projects.

Top Experiences

Here are some of the top ways our students love applying what they learn throughout their degree:

  • Mentorship, Lessons, and Studio Classes:
Take lessons with a dedicated studio teacher who gets to know your strengths, style and goals. They’ll support your musical growth through personalized instruction and feedback. In studio classes, you’ll perform, learn from your peers, and build confidence in a supportive musical community.
  • Coach-Accompanists: Work with a professional pianist (your coach-accompanist) who rehearses with you, offers feedback and helps you feel performance-ready for lessons, recitals and juries. This essential support is available for vocalists and instrumentalists.
  • Performance Opportunities: Join faculty-led ensembles such as orchestra, jazz band, choirs and chamber music. Perform throughout the year, take part in studio recitals and share your music in casual on- and off-campus settings. Whether you’re on stage or in a community space, you’ll gain confidence and versatility by performing often.
  • Placements and Work Experience: Take your learning beyond the classroom. Gain real-world experience through placements with community organizations, education settings and faculty-led research. You can also work in on-campus music jobs or take part in international exchanges that expand your perspective and build your resume.
