Applicants are required to complete the Ontario Police Fitness Award test as set out by the Police Fitness Personal of Ontario (PFPO). The testing consists of four components that are designed to assess muscular and cardiovascular endurance based on parameters set out by the PFPO. Applicants must score a minimum of 75 percent to achieve a passing score. More details on the Ontario Police Fitness Award test can be found on pfpo.org.
The Local Focus Assessment (LFA), Pre-Background Questionnaire (PBQ) and Personal History Form are written, short-answer-style worksheets. This is a chance for Laurier Special Constable Service to get to know some of your history.
The interview is a panel interview that is approximately 90 minutes. The interview will cover your knowledge on policing and commitment to the community and to Wilfrid Laurier University. This is a chance for Laurier Special Constable Service to get to know you, your values and your passion for helping others. You may be requested back for a second interview.
The psychological test and interview determines your suitability to the world of policing. There is no way to study or prepare for this stage. Just get a good night sleep and arrive on time.
The background investigation is where we speak with past employers, friends, family, personal references, and anyone else who we think might be able to help.
Successful applicants will be offered conditional employment as a special constable, subject to passing a medical examination, passing a background investigation from a parent agency (Waterloo Regional Police Service or Brantford Police Service) and successful completion of a special constable training course.
