Program History

Laurier's Teaching Fellows demonstrate exceptional contributions to teaching and learning, and have established an exemplary record of achievement in educational leadership. To further the impact of their individual efforts, the fellowship seeks to establish connections between educators working to promote teaching excellence and student success.

The fellowship program was developed in 2013 by the inaugural associate vice-president: Teaching and Learning. The fellowship program was designed to identify and cultivate a community of leaders who could work to further the teaching and learning mission of the institution within their own discipline, across Laurier and beyond.

Over the years, the community aspect of the fellowship program advanced as they became focused on developing collaborative programming and research projects to advance a culture of teaching excellence at an institutional level. 

Since its inception, the fellows developed a Teaching Day Retreat, a lunch and learn series and a journal reading club, among their other projects. They have presented at regional, national and international teaching and learning events to share insights from their evolving practice, and to inspire colleagues to approach their teaching practice in innovative ways.
