ROYAL CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC EXAMINATION Prep Courses

Beginner Level: Covers Royal Conservatory Levels 1-4.  Ideal for students preparing for beginner to intermediate level practical exams who have had minimal or no prior theory instruction. Beginners welcome.

• Dates: Sept. 23 to Dec. 9 (excluding holidays)
• Schedule: Mondays, start time TBD based on enrolment, 80 min. 
• Tuition: (min. 3 students): $400, semi-private (2 students): $500

Intermediate Level: Covers Royal Conservatory Levels 5 and 6.  Ideal for students who are preparing for intermediate to advanced level practical exams who have either completed the Beginner Level Course or the Level 4 RCM exam, or an equivalency test.  

• Dates: Sept. 23 to Dec. 9 (excluding holidays)
• Schedule: Mondays, start time TBD based on enrolment, 80 min. 
• Tuition: (min. 3 students): $400, semi-private (2 students): $500

Students must have either taken the previous course, or passed the RCM exam, or must pass an equivalency test to determine their level of understanding (I.e. Level 4 is required to proceed to Intermediate, Level 6 is required to proceed to Advanced).

Classes will prepare students for RCM Theory Exams, but classes do not include the official exam or cover the RCM exam fees. Students must register for exams independently through the RCM website.

Complete Theory Rudiments

ROYAL CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC (RCM), LEVELS 1–8

This course is a complete overview in Elementary Music Rudiments and is recommended for students working on intermediate to advanced level practical exams. Students do not need to complete a prior theory program as the class will review beginner level material including basic notation and will progress to advanced levels of understanding. This course will prepare students for the Level 8 RCM Theory curriculum. Students will be expected to complete homework assignments outside of class hours.

• Dates: Sept. 23 to April 28, 2025 (excluding holidays)
• Time:  Mondays, start time TBD based on enrolment. Course includes 22 classes, 80 min. 
• Tuition:  $1150, min. three students (cost includes workbook) or semi-private rate $1450 for two students per class.

No previous theory instruction required (beginner level material will be covered), but this course is recommended for students who are currently studying at an intermediate to advanced level in their practical lessons.
